Ghosts and Poltergeists
Published in Textbook Binding by Folcroft Library Editions (June, 1977)
Author: Herbert, Thurston
Average review score:

Excellent
Herbert Thurston knew how to write. This book has a skill of the English language the likes of which I have not seen in some time. Thurston is thorough, intelligent, and serious on the phenomena of poltergeists. The chapters deal in individual case histories with emphasis on the older reports. He will claim that the older reports have as much (or more) credibility than modern ones.

I would put this book on the same shelf as Harry Price's "Poltergeist Over England." For I find them monumental.

Great Ships Passing: A Story of Mariners and Their Ships
Published in Paperback by Harold Thurston (January, 1998)
Author: Harold, Captain Thurston
Average review score:

History, Forgoten
During World War Two, many of our US Merchant Service men became crews on highly dangerous missions throughout the world. It was only recentl that they were giving a "fom" of Veteran status, and in many cases these men had passed, and were never recognized. This book deals with the Liberty ships of the war diretcly into modern times. If for no other reason that I rate it highly, is the fact that these men, and now womenm were forgotten. This is an excellent history, for all ages, and I reminder that the United States Merchant marine, offers more, far more, than a great band at innauguration parades. This is a good read with some interesting images.

Human Foibles: Six Plays

PLAYS CRYING OUT TO BE PERFORMED
This collection of six of the award winning output of a Baltimore playwright is ready made for a theatre company in search of hot new properties. They read each like a novel. I intend to suggest it to my own amateur company.

If They're Laughing...
Published in Paperback by Cottonwood Pr (December, 1992)
Authors: Elaine Lundberg and Cheryl M. Thurston
Average review score:

Excellent teacher resource!
"If they're Laughing..." was a great read for two main reasons. Firstly, in today's classrooms sometimes there is not a lot to laugh about. This book allows the teacher to find ways to laugh with the students everyday. I believe that students that laugh and enjoy school will work hard to get to school everyday. Secondly, even if you don't use these ideas in class, there are lots of funny stories and anecdotes. I was chuckling to myself as I was reading and relaxing (this is definitely not a typical textbook / teacher guide read). If you are looking to add some fun and humour to your classroom, "If They're Laughing..." is a MUST! END

The Language of the Constitution: A Sourcebook and Guide to the Ideas, Terms, and Vocabulary Used by the Framers of the United States Constitution
Published in Hardcover by Greenwood Press (30 November, 1991)
Authors: Thurston Greene, Stuart B. Flexner, Douglas M. Arnold, Christopher Collier, and Dominick Egan
Average review score:

An essential guide for constitutional scholars
"Language" can not adequately convey the importance/value of this book to those who seek to understand the "original meaning" of the United States Constitution. When I purchased this book, I was concerned that, upon close examination, I would discover that its purpose was to justify much of the Supreme Court's illegitimate jurisprudence over the past 100 years by misrepresenting (i.e. taking out of context) various historical documents. I quickly learned that this was indeed NOT the case. The Editor-in-Chief, Thurston Greene sums up the content of the book quite nicely in his preface, "It is strictly factual. There is no commentary, no speculation, no theorizing, no argumentation. Not a word that was written after the constitutional cake was baked . . . This book is a tool for the curious, for all those who realize how much more there is to know . . . ." Well said sir, well said.

Self-Hypnosis: Creating Your Own Destiny
Published in Paperback by (May, 1993)
Authors: Henry L. Bolduc and Mark Thurston
Average review score:

A practical book of self-hypnosis scripts
I know of no better book with practical self-hypnosis scripts, for personal use. With the author's guidelines, anyone can learn what self-hypnosis is, how to use it, and can use an ordinary tape recorder to create great results.

As a hypnotherapist myself, I have sometimes used Henry's scripts with clients, and have found them helpful for myself, as well.

Yes! You'll like this book!

Soul Purpose: Discovering and Fulfilling Your Destiny
Published in Audio Cassette by HarperAudio (January, 1990)
Authors: Charles Thomas Cayce and Mark A. Thurston
Average review score:

Very thought-provoking
I picked this off the bookshelf at a bookshop and it is certainly one of the better books I have come across to help oneself work out onefs soul purpose in life. This slim volume doesnft go into specifics of which path to follow, but through various exercises and examples of other people, leads you to discover what are your strengths and weaknesses. Using this as a base and through meditation and further exercises you can find what feels right for you. It does not necessarily mean finding the perfect job, but finding something in your life that fulfils you. One point that is not often dealt with by other similar books is that finding meaning in our own lives should not be self-centered: we should also include some form of service to others. Most of all, finding fulfillment does not mean we must all be high achievers and have some visible form of success. We can each find meaning and fulfillment in our lives by living our soulfs purpose, which is unique to each and everyone and which in turn complements that of those around us.

World of the Hummingbird
Published in Hardcover by Sierra Club Books (October, 1999)
Author: Harry Thurston
Average review score:

amazing photography
I recently stumbled across this book by accident, and didn't realize until afterwards that it was put together by Harry Thurston--being Nova Scotian, I cannot help but be familiar with "Tidal Life".

"The World of the Hummingbird" is an enthralling book. The photographs are large and glossy, which is always a plus. They manage to capture some of the most amazing little creatures. Hummingbirds normally come and go so quickly that you can't get a good look, with wings that are just a blur. Well, that is what this book is for. From pictures of baby hummingbirds, to full grown hummingbirds in courtship rituals, these photos can be looked at over and over again. The text provides a wealth of information about hummingbirds, and clear maps show range for the various species of hummingbird.

All in all, a wonderful coffee table book, with entertaing text, and pictures you will never tire of looking at. This book is a must for bird lovers and natural history buffs.
